Plan for Ecological Reserve Not So Sweet.

The government of Uganda has approved a ludicrous and damaging plan to clearcut more than 7000 acres of the the Mabira forest, which is also an ecological reserve. Why? To pave way for a sugar plantation, officials confirmed last Wednesday, March 21st.

As of March 24th, someone had stepped forward to offer land to use for the sugar plantation instead of Mabira. Mabira covers 29,964 hectares of tropical moist forest, is one of the largest forests in Uganda, is a very significant water catchment area for Lake Victoria, the second largest lake in the world, which has a giant impact on the world's longest river - the Nile.
